Located in Chicago, Illinois. The Ryerson Library (built 1901) and the Burnham Library of Architecture (1912) form a significant research collection consisting of more than 220,000 volumes and 1,500+ current serial publications. Special emphasis is placed on 18th-20th century architecture and 19th century painting, prints and drawings. There is also a special collection of 430,000 slides used by the staff and faculty of the Art Institute and selectively available to researchers. The Institute hosts many public events and programs.
